A friend in need...

October 8th, 2005

In this time of need and despair, GSK Pakistan was very quick to respond to the calamity affected areas with Rs. 20 million worth of antibiotics, analgesics and topical anti-bacterial supplies, delivered within 24 hours of the disaster having struck. Carefully selected emergency treatment packages were developed by the Crisis Management Team established, and a donation of up to 350,000 doses of Hepatitis A vaccine was given to health authorities to cope with the arising health concerns in the wake of the earthquake. This was all delivered within 24 hours of the disaster due to the urgent medical need.

With this, total value of the medicines and vaccines that GSK has contributed to the disaster relief effort now stands at US$6.5 million (around Rs.400m) making GSK one of the largest corporate donors for earthquake relief in Pakistan. The GSK International also provided continued support and administrative assistance to route aid. We also formed a crisis team to help with the ongoing work in alliance with CFC which did tremendous management, arrangement and general relief work.

They also provided healthcare support through volunteers who were sent forward to get directly involved through a particular relief operation based at "Gharri Dupatta".

As a mark of respect for fellow countrymen, all GSK Pakistan employees donated a minimum of a day's salary to relief efforts. The company has ensured continuum supply and availability of much needed drugs and medicines which are available with our distributors all over the country. A list of GSK distributors is also being supplied to the Pakistan Medical Association. Further relief is being provided in a phased and ongoing basis.

The countless unfortunate in a developing country like ours, lack access to even basic healthcare facilities which has led to a national healthcare crisis.
