GlaxoSmithKline, Pakistan (GSKP) Limited is the largest research-based pharmaceutical company in the country and the second largest in the world. We have been represented in Pakistan since 1955, which puts us in a great position to make a difference to our community and promote good corporate citizenship.
We strive to be valued corporate citizens no matter where we do business. We have always shown strong commitment and support for public health and awareness initiatives and have championed many social causes. In the face of growing adversity, especially in the developing world, we have responded through three main channels: preferential pricing (vaccines and anti-virals being offered on non profit basis/discounts), research and development and community investment. The Group's strong commitment to the community is reflected in various charitable projects in Pakistan, and around the world. Our relationship with our various communities is something we are very proud of as individuals and as an organization.
According to the Guardians Giving List: GSK was at 6th place before any other pharmaceutical company, with the highest over all gift in kind quantity and the third highest over all cash donation of £61 million in 2006.
GSKP was also awarded the prestigious Management Association of Pakistan (MAP) award for which nominations are based on independent evaluation of quality of management practices including corporate governance, marketing planning, production, R&D and corporate social responsibility and also financial performance. Awards are given in two categories - Business & Industrial and Financial and GSKP won the overall Corporate Excellence Award in the Business & Industrial category by obtaining the highest score across all sectors in 2007.

Global Community Partnerships is GSK's charitable program that works with partner organizations in the developed and developing worlds to help improve the health and education of under-served communities. It does so through the traditional areas of funding, product donations and expertise while also aiming to build strategic partnerships that result in mutual benefit for all involved. GSK's global community investment activities in 2006 were valued at £302 million, equivalent to 3.9% of pre-tax profits and GSK contributed £22 million of life saving antibiotics and other medicines to support disaster relief efforts in 99 countries in 2006 as well.
Concern for Children (CFC) is a trust set up in 1997, the initial seed money for which was provided by SmithKline and French of Pakistan Limited.CFC has taken some remarkable steps in the last 10 years, towards addressing the underprivileged members of our society and increasing their chances of survival, enabling them access to healthcare, enhancing their knowledge for self empowerment and offering relief and attention in a timely manner when needed.

The trust has evolved from one with a broad mission to “serve the welfare and healthcare of children’ 10 years ago at its inception, to a more narrowly defined one of “building models to create solutions for social problems concerning children within at-risk populations via the identification, conception and eventual replication of pilot projects.”- 10 years on. This adjustment in mission shows clarity of purpose, dedication to meeting targets and confidence.
CFC recognizes the lack of resources within the social services sector in Pakistan and strives to carry out each project in partnership with other organizations. In compliance with CFC objectives, successful pilot projects will serve as models for replication, in an effort to meet goals and build models for sustainable development for social problems concerning children within at-risk populations. GSK has always and remains still, a committed and proud partner of CFC.

Our scientists are working hard to discover new ways of treating illness and disease. In addition to their wide-ranging talents, we use the resources of a company devoted to the application of science to improve the quality of life. It takes about 12-15 years and costs over £500 million to discover and develop a new medicine, so we need to be determined and innovative to develop our molecules into medicines as fast as possible. Using the most modern technology, we can maintain a healthy product pipeline which ensures a flow of new products and new treatments to people around the world. We are one of the largest collaborators in industry and work with academic institutions, governments, and other pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. We believe that the strength of our combined efforts will help people live healthier and happier lives.
