Emergency Relief
We know that our medicines can play a vital role in the humanitarian relief efforts in disaster zones, or to support basic healthcare provision in the world's poorest communities. We provided supplies of antibiotics and basic medicines in response to natural disasters in:
Pakistan (2005, 2010 and 2011), Haiti (2010), South East Asia (2009), El Salvador (2009), Myanmar (2008) and China (2008)
GSK Flood Relief Contributions 2010/2011
GlaxoSmithKline was one of the first pharmaceutical companies to provide support to the healthcare needs of the flood victims. Partnering with a number of organisations, GSK worked in all flood-affected areas to provide shelter, clean water, healthcare and food. Furthermore donations of antibiotics, analgesics, skin ointments, and anti-diarrhoeals were made to a number of local and foreign relief agencies, also covering medical camps set up by partner organizations, including the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), International Medical Corps (IMC), National Commission for Human Development of Pakistan (NCHD), Thardeep Rural Development Program (TRDP) Pakistan Navy, Army and Airforce flood relief operations Provincial relief efforts, and other NGOs. The World Food Programme (WFP) and International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) operations in the flood affected regions also received support by GSK.
GSK employees also actively contributed to the flood relief efforts by donating clothes, shoes, blankets, cooking utensils and cash, in a flood relief donation drive, organized by their own initiative. In September 2011, two groups of GSK Pakistan volunteers also travelled to far flung areas in Sindh to personally donate flood items to affected people.
